From a girl trying to survive the Midwest this Winter
Winter is here and you know what that means... COLD WEATHER! As someone who went from living in the South to moving to the Midwest, let me tell you, I was not prepared for how cold it gets. On top of that, it snows like every day here! You may think that is great, but it is not fun walking to class, driving, and surviving. Here are some things that have got me through the winter, especially in an area where it gets below freezing!
Fashion
Puffy Coat
You may think this is self-explanatory, but I truly did not own an ACTUAL coat until I moved to the Midwest. My friends laughed at me when they saw the "coat" I had because they knew I wouldn't survive. Make sure to get a coat that is thick and warm to protect yourself from the cold!
Doc Martens
You can honestly use any boot, especially snow boots, but I personally would recommend Doc Martens for the winter. The first reason is that they are very versatile with any outfit. I am convinced that they go with any item of clothing you own. Secondly, they are very durable for any situation. I have had my Doc Martens since I was a Junior in high school (4 years ago) and they still look brand new. Although for longer wear, I wouldn't recommend wearing them in the snow, I have worn them in the snow, and they have lasted. The quality is worth the price! Lastly and most importantly, they will keep you warm for the winter. Pair them with some fuzzy socks and you are warm and stylish! You can also find great dupes at Walmart, TJMAXX, and many other stores!
Beauty
Skin Oil Serums
If you are anything like me, your skin can easily get dry when it gets colder. A way to combat that and protect your skin is to use an oil serum. The product I would recommend is Glossier Futuredew, which is good for dry, sensitive skin. The products you use are totally up to you because everyone has different skin types and oils may not be the option for you if you have naturally oily skin.
Hair Hydration
Similar to skin, your hair may need some hydration for this Winter! I would recommend finding conditioners that help with hair hydration. One of my personal favorites would be the Amika Hydro Rush Conditioner. Anything from their Hydro Rush line would be a great option!
Working Hands
Let me tell you, this product is the holy grail! My friend recommended this product to me and since then, it has been my go-to hand lotion. This is one of the only lotions that I have seen work. I haven't tried their other products, but I know they sell other types of lotions, so that is what I would recommend!
Activities
Read a Book
I recently got into reading, and I honestly felt like I had missed out my whole life. This may seem like a boring activity, but with the right book, I am convinced that anyone can enjoy it. I am very much into the cliche, teenage-core stories. If you are into that, a good book I would recommend would be "If He Had Been with Me".
Trampoline Park
An activity my friends and I love doing is going to the Trampoline Park. I know you may be thinking this is for kids, but I promise, it is so much fun! It is the perfect mix of fun and staying active.
Community Events
The holidays can be lonely at times so a great way to prevent that is getting involved in your community. Whether that is your Neighborhood Association, school, church, or volunteering, this is a great way to meet new people and even help others during these times. Getting involved in your community can be beneficial for you and other people!
